monotype printmaking workshop at the UCSC Print Shop. This workshop is open to all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists looking to expand their printmaking practice.
Monotype is a playful and versatile printmaking process that allows for direct drawing, layering, texture, and unexpected results. Throughout the weekend, we will explore a variety of approaches to creating one of a kind prints using ink, found objects, stencils, drawing tools, and more.
Participants will learn several methods for building images, including drawing into ink, adding ink to the plate, creating impressions with natural and found materials, and transferring hand-drawn marks. The emphasis will be on experimentation, discovery, and developing your own visual language.
The workshop will include demonstrations, hands on printing time, individual guidance, and plenty of opportunities to explore the creative possibilities of monotype.
The UCSC print shop is a beautiful space to work in with plenty of work surfaces and multiple presses.  
All levels are welcome.
